The Art of Intuitive Eating
Our lives,
so seemingly small,
ripple out
to the whole universe
as tiny whispers
like the sounds
of butterfly wings,
and the clear voice
of the living truth.

Restoring the Teeth: Silica Tea
We've read and heard that an herbal mix of nettles, oatstraw, and horsetail (shown below) are reported to have exceptionally high sources of natural silica (and other nutrients) that are very good for the teeth and bones. And, as the stories go, we heard that this mix can help teeth to heal from decay, and that they might even regrow! We'll see. I have a tooth that has broken off, and maybe, just maybe, it will be able to regenerate.

Silica Tea Herbs We've been using a new and easy way to make the tea. Much like sun tea, the herbs are simply soaked overnight. It takes about thirty seconds to prepare and I do this when I rinse sprouts just before going to bed. Since we started to make silica tea this way (instead of the traditional hot water method), I actually crave it. We made the tea using hot water, and we didn't like the taste or aroma nearly as much as with this cold water extraction method.

We use the tea in place of water when making a superfood cocktail that we often have before breakfast, which really gets our motors going! It's so much better than caffeine, and gives a powerful kick-start to the day. See recipe below.

Ingredients for Tea (Makes 1 quart):
4 cups pure water
3 tablespoons each: oatstraw, nettles, and horsetail dried herb
We buy ours from Mountain Rose Herbs

Directions
Put herbs into a one quart mason jar.
Fill with pure water. Put on lid, and shake to mix.
Set on kitchen counter to soak overnight.
Strain before using. Refrigerate.
(You could also make sun tea from this mix too.)

Superfood Cocktail (Serves 2):
1 and 1/2 cups silica tea, strained.
2 tablespoons each: Vitamineral Green, bee pollen and 1 teaspoon rose hip powder. Put into blender and mix.
Note: if you've never bee pollen before, build up to these amounts gradually. You can test for bee pollen allergy by taking one granule.

The Little Story: Restoring the Teeth

It seems I was born with soft teeth. By the time I was five, I had twenty-five cavities! This condition of soft teeth continued throughout my childhood, due in part to a high sugar diet. By the time I was in my teens, all of my molars were filled to the brim with silver mercury fillings.

Silica Tea As an adult, the better my diet became the stronger my teeth got. Dried fruits wreck havoc though, so I try to avoid these foods unless they are soaked. Recent trips to the dentist are now mostly about replacing old silver fillings that are starting to loose structural integrity, which means, decay may be forming under the filling, and mercury may be leaking into my body.

We found a holistic dentist, Dr. Borneman, in Anacortes, Washington. They treat me so well there. I get oxygen during the whole treatment. I am given activated charcoal to absorb any possible minute pieces of silver that might slip past the rubber dam used to keep anything from being swallowed. They give me drops of homeopathic Arnica and Rescue Remedy before and during the treatment to help ease the trauma to the teeth, and to me!

Before work was started they sent us a packet of all the possible materials that they might use so that I could have our chiropractor test them for compatibility. Then the chiropractor made a homeopathic remedy from those materials and I use this each time I visit the dentist. It helps to adjust to what's being put into my body, and to expel any unwanted toxins, such as novocaine.

Dr. Borneman is doing Cerec crown restorations where necessary. These are made right in the office, and are non-metal. No double visits are required where a temporary filling is put in and then a porcelain, gold, or titanium crown is made (usually outsourced), a process that can take weeks to complete. With a Cerec crown, a computer image is taken of the tooth, and then the image is relayed to the Cerec machine. It takes a small piece of porcelain and mills it to an exact fit of the tooth, which is then set in place. The result is so beautiful that I can't tell the difference between a real tooth and the replacement. Even the color is the same as the other teeth because there are many shades for the dentist to choose from to get a perfect match. All this takes a mere two hours from start to finish! (Dentists who do Cerec restorations are listed on the internet.)

Already I am feeling a difference since four of the silver fillings have been replaced. There is a "down" energy in the teeth that have silver in them, which I feel particularly in the bottom molars. The new fillings have an "up", or neutral energy. They feel like normal, healthy teeth. I'm thrilled. Sixteen teeth have been scheduled to be restored, either with composite fillings or Cerec crowns. We've completed four teeth, so this leaves twelve more to go. It will probably take about a year to complete the process. I'm starting to feel an excitement now, rather than a dread about going to the dentist. Especially now that I can actually feel a difference in my energy and emotions.

All of this is making me dedicated to taking awesome care of my teeth. Gentle brushing, using a water pic, and flossing are all parts of my daily tooth regimen. Plus the silica tea, and the amazing foods and superfood nutrition that we are getting each day. I intend to keep my teeth in excellent condition for the rest of my life, and share a joyful smile with the world.
